In Community | La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción
We are proud to partner with La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción, a Puerto Rican grassroots political organization rooted in the radical tradition of Black and decolonial feminism, through our 45th Annual Conference Co-Chairs, Zoán T. Dávila Roldán, Shariana Ferrer-Nuñez.
Since their founding in 2014, La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción has “worked to expose how the State sustains and supports these systems of oppression”. They do this through “political training, agitation and denunciation, mobilization and direct action, confrontation with the state, the formation of coalitions and strategic alliances with other sectors, the creation of alternatives through public policy or self-managed means, and the creation of a culture of resistance”.
We ask attendees to consider supporting this transformative feminist work via a one-time donation and include this opportunity in our Annual Conference registration process. Please join us in supporting La Colectiva Feminista en Construcción by following their social media, attending their sessions and programs during our time in Borikén, and engaging their work in your respective learning spaces.
Supporting our Borikén-Based Attendees
The National Women’s Studies Association holds an immense privilege in hosting our 45th Annual Conference, An Honour Song: Feminist Struggles, Feminist Victories, in San Juan this upcoming November. In our growing work with our Conference Co-Chairs, we recognize the necessity of actualizing our commitments to the local community of feminist artists, activists, disruptors, educators, emerging scholars, possibility models, and trouble makers that continue to enrich movement work throughout Borikén. Therefore, the NWSA will waive our required membership and registration fees for a limited number of presenters who live in Puerto Rico.
Attendees living in Puerto Rico are encouraged to complete a separate registration application, accessible via our Annual Conference hub, to assist our National Office team in maintaining accurate records for a smooth registration and check-in process and in meeting the requirements of our local business providers.

Travel Resources:
As we prepare to be in Puerto Rico for our 45th Annual Conference, we recognize that traveling is a legitimate safety concern. Permanent residents, visa-holders, non-immigrants, green card holders, undocumented persons, and naturalized US citizens, are facing particular surveillance when traveling domestically within the United States of America and internationally. Our community’s safety is of the utmost importance; in addition to our existing (and growing) accessibility and inclusion protocols, we are providing an evolving list of resources from legal experts and organizations with expertise, in good faith.
We are mindful about making such a resource publicly available and the potential of further risking the safety of members by formally documenting (ex: via IP address collecting interest forms) who receives access. Therefore, if you’d like to receive this information, please reach out to the National Office by phone or email and our team will work with you in sharing these resources securely.
Refund Policy:
Please note, per NWSA policy, registration and event ticket fees are neither refundable nor transferable.
The NWSA strives to be as accessible and flexible as possible; we recognize and are simultaneously navigating a challenging socio-political climate that makes convening even more of a privilege. We aim to meet the needs of our conference attendees with compassion as we are able. The Association has extremely limited ability in processing registration refunds for our Annual Conference at the discretion of our Governing Council. Attendees may request a refund due to exceptional extenuating circumstances by contacting the National Office.
If our event or program is canceled or postponed due to circumstances beyond our control, we will work with registrants to provide appropriate refunds should we be unable to reschedule the initiative.
Forfeited registration and event ticket fees will automatically transfer to our Ann K. Schonberger Travel and Registration Grants Fund.
Portions of this National Women’s Studies Association event will be photographed and/or video recorded.
