President's Blog

On the first Monday of every month, NWSA will publish a new President's blog that invites the opportunity to get to know our President, Dr. Heidi R. Lewis better, receive updates about forthcoming NWSA initiatives, draw excitement for our upcoming initiatives and the Annual Conference, and to quote Heidi "have some fun but not necessarily in that order and not always at the same time."

The President's Blog is an initiative informed by the 2024 Strategic Plan and is a platform to engage with our Association President and respect the boundary between Association content curation and NWSA official Statements.

About Our 22nd President

In addition to serving as your 22nd National Women’s Studies Association President, Heidi R. Lewis is David & Lucile Packard Professor of Feminist & Gender Studies at Colorado College, where she regularly teaches Introduction to Feminist & Gender Studies, Feminist Theory, Black Feminist Theory, Critical Media Studies, Hip Hop and Feminism, and her study abroad course, Hidden Spaces, Hidden Narratives: Intersectionality Studies in Berlin. She is the co-editor of In Audre’s Footsteps: Transnational Kitchen Table Talk (edition assemblage, 2021) with Dana Asbury and Jazlyn Andrews and the author of a forthcoming single-authored manuscript entitled “Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap ‘Crisis’” (under contract with Oxford University Press), which features an interview with DJ Drama. A proud native of Alliance, OH, Lewis and her husband Ten (short for Tennessee) live in Colorado Springs with their two children—Antonio, Jr. and Chase—their dog Philly, and their cat D’Brickashaw Ferguson (aka Brick). She mostly loves being an academic, but she has what many call a “bad” attitude and a “foul” mouth. So, she often wishes she would’ve become a rapper instead.
