About Our 22nd President
In addition to serving as your 22nd National Women’s Studies Association President, Heidi R. Lewis is David & Lucile Packard Professor of Feminist & Gender Studies at Colorado College; inaugural Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Bibliographies in Gender & Women's Studies; and Series Editor of Expanding Frontiers: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality (University of Nebraska Press). Along with several peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and public-facing articles written for New Black Man, The Feminist Wire, Ms., and other publications, she is the co-editor of In Audre’s Footsteps: Transnational Kitchen Table Talk (edition assemblage, 2021) with Dana Asbury and Jazlyn Andrews and the author of Make Rappers Rap Again: Interrogating the Mumble Rap "Crisis" (2025), the first in the Oxford University Press Theorizing African American Music Series. A proud native of the Midwest—Northeast Ohio, to be precise; Alliance, OH, to be exact—Lewis and her husband Ten (short for Tennessee) live in Colorado Springs with their two children, Antonio, Jr. and Chase, and their cat D’Brickashaw "Brick" Ferguson. She mostly loves being an academic, but she has what many call a “bad” attitude and a “foul” mouth. So, she often wishes she would’ve become a rapper instead.
