Trauma-Informed Pelvic Examinations: Consent and Care
×
When:
Jul 15, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 01:00 PM (ET)
Trauma-informed care, rooted in 1990s sexual assault survivor activism, challenges medical paternalism and advocates for true bodily and decisional autonomy in healthcare. Despite decades of advocacy, this approach remains misunderstood, including in sexual and reproductive health settings, where outdated practices often cause harm—even when providers follow accepted standards. This webinar will clarify how trauma-informed care, grounded in reproductive justice, feminist ethics, and queer theory, is critical to safety and empowerment. We will discuss how patients can recognize and prevent harm by engaging with ethical language and asserting full autonomy in their care.
