The Political Attack on Gender Studies: A workshop on defending feminist knowledge
×
When:
Mar 9, 2026 from 07:00 PM to 08:00 PM (ET)
The National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) and members of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) invite you to a collaborative webinar in support of our members impacted by/navigating the intensified attacks on Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies (WGSS) and sibling fields of study.
This interactive workshop focuses on academic freedom and institutional responses to anti-DEI/Trump administration policies, how we talk about and defend feminist knowledge, and resource sharing to bolster our collective organizing work.
We'll be in conversation with:
Dr. Karma R. Chávez, Bobby and Sherri Patton Professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies and Chair of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at the University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Rana Jaleel, Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and Asian American Studies at the University of California, Davis and Chair of the AAUP Committee A on Academic Freedom and Tenure
Dr. Laurie Essig, Professor of Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies at Middlebury College
Dr. Melinda Chen, Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Oklahoma and NWSA Member at Large
We welcome questions and engagement from our attendees - thank you for building resources and interventions in defense of our field.
