The Program Administration and Development Committee (PA&D) is a standing committee in NWSA specifically designed to represent the interests and needs of administrators of women's studies programs and departments to the Governing Council of NWSA and to assist NWSA in meeting the needs of women's administrators and their departments and programs.

NWSA Data Collection Project

NWSA is partnering with the National Organization for Research (NORC) at the University of Chicago to collect data on the field of women’s studies nationally.

Women of Color Leadership

The WoCLP is designed to increase the number of women of color students and faculty within the field of women’s studies and, consequently, to have an impact on the levels of participation and power by women of color in the PA&D, NWSA, and in the field of women’s studies as a whole.

Governance

This section includes reports, recommendations, constitution, bylaws, elections, policies and so forth.

Social Justice Programs & Initiatives

WOMEN OF COLOR LEADERSHIP PROJECT

The WoCLP is designed to increase the number of women of color students and faculty within the field of women’s studies and, consequently, to have an impact on the levels of participation and power by women of color in the PA&D, NWSA, and in the field of women’s studies as a whole.

Women of color in women’s studies, ethnic studies, or related fields may apply if they aspire to leadership within women’s studies or NWSA.

Applicants may include graduate students, faculty, and current program administrators who wish to be more involved in program or Association leadership.


STOP DREAMING START WORKING

Sponsored by the: Women of Color Caucus & Anti-White Supremacy Taskforce of the National Women’s Studies Association

The purpose of the gathering is continue the work to build and enlarge antiracist community within NWSA by naming the difficulties and barriers and creating strategies to keep ourselves moving toward positive change.

This is the sixth mid-year gathering organized to coincide with the mid-year governing council meeting of the NWSA. Both the workshop and the meeting are open to all NWSA members. This year’s workshop will be an interactive workshop grounded in a set of common readings and shared experiences. (Readings will be made available in advance)


CONFERENCE REGISTRATION SCHOLARSHIPS

NWSA is able to offer 100 Conference Registration Scholarships to NWSA Conference presenters. Students, scholars and activists with a demonstrated need for financial assistance are encouraged to apply.

The scholarships are intended to encouraging the participation in NWSA of individuals whose presence enriches the diversity of and increases participation by under-represented constituencies in the NWSA.

Particular consideration will be given to assisting student presenters and emerging scholars who have not previously received NWSA Registration Scholarships.

SYLLABI COLLECTION

 

 

NWSA DATA COLLECTION PROJECT

NWSA partnered with the National Organization for Research (NORC) at the University of Chicago to collect data on the field of women’s studies nationally; the project was made possible with generous support from The Ford Foundation.

The Mapping Women’s Studies project is now complete and has two primary goals:

  • Women’s and gender studies department chairs can compare their program with others nationally to make the case for staffing and other resources.

  • NWSA can better understand trends in the field and can develop programs and services accordingly.

From time to time, NWSA compiles suggested syllabi in specific areas, These have included Introduction to Women's Studies, Feminist Theory, Anti-racism, and Science and Technology. These projects are headed by the national office and/or NWSA constiuent groups.

SPEAKERS BUREAU

These speakers address a wide range of topics of critical importance to Women's Studies and would make a valuable contribution to your institution's programming.

UNITED NATIONS NGO AFFILIATION

In January 2005 the Governing Council (GC) of the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) voted to seek affiliate status with the United Nations (UN).  NWSA will seek to establish an associate relationship with the UN’s Department of Public Information (DPI) and also will apply for consultative status with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
