The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a senior social scientist to serve as department head. This position will begin fall 2010. A PhD in Women/Gender Studies or a social science discipline with a gender and race/ethnicity research focus, achievement of tenure in an advanced rank, academic administration experience, and successful grant writing are required. We are especially interested in candidates with a specialization in gender and African/African-American and/or Diasporic Studies who can lead the WGSS department, and help enter into fruitful collaboration with other units in establishing and seeking funding for interdisciplinary projects, including an anticipated Center for Social Justice. The successful candidate will have administrative experience and a solid record of scholarship and grants appropriate for a senior-level hire to lead a long-standing, well-established, and nationally known department, contributing to its financial, scholarly, curricular, and enrollment growth as well as faculty development.

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary program, one of 22 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. WGSS is closely allied with UC’s Women’s Center and LGBTQ Office, and the Departments of Africana Studies, Judaic Studies, English, Architecture, Planning, and other units. Job Search: Director of Undergraduate Studies in Gender Studies
The Gender Studies Program at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a Director of Undergraduate Studies. Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary academic program in the College of Arts and Letters at Notre Dame that offers a supplementary (non primary) major and minor for undergraduates and a graduate minor. Gender Studies offers two core undergraduate courses and crosslists numerous courses from across the College of Arts and Letters to form its curriculum. The Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) will advise undergraduate majors and minors in Gender Studies; administer the senior thesis program, senior internships and summer internships; and coordinate student prizes. In addition, the DUS will teach the required Introduction to Gender Studies, an internship course, a thesis writing course, and one elective annually. The DUS will work closely with the Director of Gender Studies, Gender Studies Steering committee, and Program Coordinator to coordinate the Gender Studies curriculum. The DUS is encouraged to continue a research program and to participate in relevant conferences. The position is non-tenure track, but renewable on a continuing basis.
The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in Gender or Women’s Studies or another appropriate discipline, with degree in hand by August 2010. He or she will have administrative experience and a demonstrated excellence in teaching in the areas of Women’s or Gender Studies. Women’s Studies Program

The Women's Studies Program at East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) invites applications for a one-year appointment in the Whichard Distinguished Professorship, an endowed chair in the Humanities, at the rank of Visiting Associate Professor or Visiting (Full) Professor. The position will begin August 16, 2010, and end May 6, 2011. (A one-semester-only appointment is negotiable.) Duties include teaching one course in the Fall 2010 term and one course in the Spring 2011 term, giving seminars and lectures to the ECU community, and participating in joint colloquia. Successful applicants will be active scholars in women's and/or gender research and demonstrate a commitment to service to the university, community and profession. Salary is competitive. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications.

The successful candidate will have a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship appropriate for a senior faculty appointment within an academic department in the College of Liberal Arts. Assistant Professor, Women’s and Gender Studies


The Women’s and Gender Studies at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Women’s and Gender Studies. The appointment will begin in August 2010, contingent upon funding.

Candidates will have completed a PhD, preferably in Women’s and Gender Studies, and demonstrate a strong record of interdisciplinary research and teaching. Candidates with graduate certification in Women’s and Gender Studies or training in a related interdisciplinary field will also be considered. The successful candidate will enhance one or both of our program’s two key, and interrelated, areas of focus: 1. gender, sexuality, and public health and 2. transnational feminist social movements and activism. We are especially interested in candidates with a strong background in qualitative social science methods, in particular, ethnography.

The Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Stony Brook currently has over 80 majors, 100 minors, and 45 graduate certificate students. Majors may also complete one of two specialization tracks, in Gender, Sexuality, and Public Health or Social Movements. In collaboration with the graduate program in Public Health, we have also recently developed a 5-year BA in Women’s and Gender Studies/MPH. In the near term, we hope to further expand our graduate program by offering an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies, and, in the longer term, a PhD. The successful candidate will be expected to play a major role in planning and implementing the expansion of the graduate program.
