Bisexual/Transgender
The Mission of the Bisexual/Transgender Interest Group (BTIG) is to bring together researchers, educators and community
activists with a scholarly interest in the areas of transgender, bisexual, intersex and queer studies. BTIG will work to support scholars working in these areas by providing networking opportunities, scholarly and activist resources and facilitation of professional development.
In addition, BTIG will work to make the National Women?s Studies Association fully accessible and welcoming for members of the bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and allied community through advocacy, activism and education.

Early Modern Women
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Early Modern Women Interest Group is
to promote discussion of scholarly and pedagogical issues related to gender
and sexuality in the middle ages and early modern period.
Emphasis will be
on multi- and inter-disciplinary explorations of these topics across the
vectors of class, language, nationality, culture, race and geography.
A second purpose is to establish links between NWSA and other professional organizations
whose goals are consistent with the Early Modern Women Interest
Group, especially the Society for the Study of Early Modern Women.
Feminism and Activism
Purpose
to bring together scholars who study feminist movements
and teachers who incorporate this research into their classes to
address the following questions:
- What
are the lessons of feminist movements of the past?
- To
what extent are feminist economists, scientists, and policy analysts
providing feminist activists with usable knowledge?
- What
are the lessons to be learned from feminist studies of participation
in electoral process?
- To
what extent does it make sense to try to create new political
configurations - e.g. A women's party?
- How
do we connect local, national and international issues?
- How
do we operate in an extremely conservative time?
- How
can we pursue realistic reformist goals and still hold on to
revolutionary vision?
- Which
issues should be on the front-burner?What are strategies for
helping our students sort out their priorities as feminist activists?
- What
kinds of feminist organizations do we need to build?
- How
do we overcome a history of race/class divisions?
- What
kinds of coalitions do we need to form?
- Is
raising our students' awareness in the classroom a form of activism?
- Must
activism involve building or working with feminist organizations?
- To
what extent does the service leaning movement advance or retard
a feminist?

Third Wave Feminisms
Purpose
The purpose of the Interest Area Group on Third Wave Feminisms is to create
a forum to critically interrogate epistemological and ontological shifts
made possible through adopting the label of third wave feminisms.
This
group is intended mainly for people who identify as third wave
feminists themselves to talk to each other, but is not an identity
group or specific to any generational affiliation.
The
third wave is tentatively defined as feminisms outside of (rather
than "after") the second
wave, although each member is entitled to have her or his own definition. |
