Women of Color Leadership

The WoCLP is designed to increase the number of women of color students and faculty within the field of women’s studies and, consequently, to have an impact on the levels of participation and power by women of color in the PA&D, NWSA, and in the field of women’s studies as a whole.

NWSA WOMEN'S CENTERS STANDING COMMITTEE

ABOUT THE WOMEN'S CENTERS COMMITTEE

Women's Centers have representation on the NWSA Governing Council as a standing committee. This is more than a symbolic recognition of the important role that women's centers play in feminist education.

NWSA recognizes that "women's studies" is broader than what happens in the classroom. NWSA acknowledges women's centers as chief out-of-class feminist educators and encourages participation in the national organization.

Campus-based women's centers have a long history of working together with women's studies to transform the curriculum, the campus environment, and society at large. The Women's Centers Committee of NWSA provides an opportunity for women's center directors, staff and others to gather and share information, ideas, challenges, successes and support. The Women's Centers Committee sponsors an annual pre-conference event as well as sessions during the NWSA annual conference.

THE NWSA WOMEN'S CENTERS LISTSERV

The purpose of the CAList is to improve communication and networking among center administrators in the U.S., and also to provide assistance, trouble-shooting, support, and information to each other.

This is an unmoderated discussion list for center administrators, people involved in the nitty-gritty of developing programming of all sorts, at all kinds of institutions.

Because it is crucial that programs support our national organization, participants must hold current institutional membership.

Second annual NASPA "women's and gender centers pre-conference workshop"
9-5 PM Sunday, March 9th, 2008 (the day prior to the official start of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators conference in Boston).

The theme for this year's women's/gender center pre-conference is "charting
a feminist course for student success." The pre-conference will focus on
information sharing and skill-building in three specific areas:

-- using the CAS standards and other methods to assess women's centers work

-- creating and utilizing innovative educational approaches for sexual
assault awareness and violence prevention

-- innovative fundraising strategies for women's centers

In addition, there will be ample opportunities for meaningful discussion,
best practices sharing, and networking.

To learn more, or to register for the preconference, visit the NASPA website
at: http://www.naspa.org/conference/

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about the conference,
or the pre-conference day! Please note: you must register for the full NASPA
conference in order to attend the pre-conference.

Hope to see you in Boston in March 2008!

We are seeking contributions for a handbook for women’s centers. The handbook is being developed by the National Women’s Studies Association Women’s Centers Committee; when complete, it will be available for download or purchase from the NWSA website.
